Spider-Man PS4 Game Trailer from E3 2016

Here’s a trailer for the in-development Spider-Man game. To my knowledge no release date has yet been named. I dig the suit design here, it’s mostly classic Spider-Man, but takes a few cues from the suit in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man (especially the sneaker treads on his feet), and also from the suit in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War. It also feels somewhat influenced by the cinematic Captain America costumes, in my opinion. He looks like he’s got more rugged strap-like reinforcementsĀ around his shoulders, and reinforcements around his arms and gloves. And the big white spider across his chest and back is reminiscent of the classic pre-Venom black suit. I’m not sure if this is intentional or not.

This game looks pretty good. I really hope the game allows the player to control the action and to choose Spidey’s individual moves. One of the best Spider-Man games was Spider-Man 2, from way back in 2004 – it had a huge city in which you could freely roam, and the game would allow the player to gradually learn many different web and melee moves and choose them at will. I’ve been disappointed by some more recent games in which the game just wants you to mash a sequence of buttons when it prompts you to, only to have the character then enact a pre-determined sequence of moves. Where’s the fun in that?
