Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk Animation from Blur Studio

I’ve watched this four-and-a-half-minute film on Youtube countless times and decided it deserved a note here on SuperheroScifiStuff. This is a great short film featuring nice characterizations of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Hulk. As of this writing I haven’t been able to determine whether this was meant as a game cinematic, or a promotional film for some sort of event, or maybe just as video content for Marvel.com. I believe it to be the work of the amazing Blur animation studio in California. Blur has some really impressive animation and visual effects in their production reels; while this piece stands well on its own merit, it’s relatively crude in comparison and as such I suspect it might be a minor project, or maybe just an older piece.

What do I like so much about this short? It’s a nice simple story about three superheroes working together. The action is decent. I don’t mind that Spider-Man can’t do much to hold off this giant killer robot and has to call in Iron Man for an assist (who, then, gets help from the Hulk). I really like the animation style, too – it’s not trying too hard to be hyper-realistic or gritty, it feels like a comic book. I think what I like most is the dialogue and characterizations of Spider-Man and Iron Man. This is just one scene, but I think it’s a well-done example of the usual wise-cracking Peter Parker that we’re used to seeing in comics and animation, but that (in my humble opinion) we haven’t quite seen come to life yet in a live action film. And while I’m a fan of the Robert Downey Jr. version of Tony Stark that works well in Marvel’s live action Avengers, Iron Man, and Captain America films, this feels a little closer to the original Tony Stark – more cool and serious compared to Peter Parker.

If you have any information or opinions on this short film to share, please leave us a comment, we’d love to hear from you.
